About Pyramids Land Tours
A Cairo Company, Run by Egyptologists
Pyramids Land Tours was founded in Cairo in 2001 by Ashraf Fares, a licensed Egyptologist who had spent years watching travelers experience Egypt the wrong way — herded through the Giza Plateau in groups of forty, rushed past the things that matter, handed a microphone commentary that answered no one's actual questions.
He built the company on a single idea: that the person standing between you and a 4,000-year-old temple should be qualified to explain it. Not a booking agent. Not a city guide with a general license. An Egyptologist — university-trained, state-licensed, and assigned to your group alone.
Twenty-five years later, that is still the entire business. More than 20,000 travelers have taken a private tour with Pyramids Land. The company holds a 4.9 rating across 2,678 reviews on TripAdvisor. It remains Cairo-based, independently run, and built around the same principle it started with.
The Founder
Ashraf Fares holds a Bachelor's degree in History and Tourism from Helwan University and a state license as an Egyptologist guide from the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. He has guided private tours across Egypt for over two decades — from the Giza Plateau to the Valley of the Kings, from the temples of Upper Egypt to the rescued Nubian monuments of Lake Nasser.
He still guides. He still reads every review. And he still answers the WhatsApp messages that come in from travelers planning their first trip — because the company was built on the idea that the person who runs it should be reachable by the people who travel with it.
The Guides
Every Pyramids Land guide is a licensed Egyptologist. That is not a marketing line — it is a legal qualification in Egypt, requiring a university degree in Egyptology or a related field and a state licensing examination. A guide without that license cannot legally lead a tour inside Egyptian monuments. Many companies use general guides and call them Egyptologists. We use the real thing, and we place them by specialism.
Mahmoud (Mimo) is the company's Cairo and Giza specialist — 25 years walking the same ground. The Old Kingdom is his territory: the pyramids, Saqqara, the engineering of the burial chambers. He is also the guide families request most, with a particular gift for keeping children genuinely engaged at sites that can overwhelm adults. If you take the flagship Pyramids and Grand Egyptian Museum day, there is a good chance Mahmoud is the one walking you through it — and families who travel with him tend to mention him by name in their reviews.
Zenab has guided the Luxor and Nile corridor for 22 years — long enough to know every site custodian and every quiet hour worth timing a visit around. She is the guide solo female travelers most often request, and most often name afterward.
Fatma is the museum specialist — 20 years of it. The Grand Egyptian Museum holds over 100,000 artifacts; the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir holds tens of thousands more. Fatma is the guide who can stand in front of the right twelve of them and make three hours feel short.
What We Actually Do
Pyramids Land runs private tours only. Every tour is your group alone — a licensed Egyptologist, a private air-conditioned vehicle, and a schedule built around what you want to see and the pace you want to see it at. No shared coaches. No fixed departure times. No commission-driven detours on direct bookings.
The company is a licensed operator registered with the Egyptian Travel Agents Association and a member of IATA. It operates across Cairo, Giza, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel, Alexandria, and the Nile and Lake Nasser cruise corridors, in English, Arabic, German, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Why It Still Matters
The Pyramids have stood for 4,500 years. The Valley of the Kings has been open to visitors since antiquity. None of that has changed, and none of it needs us. What changes is whether you understand what you are looking at — whether the day is built around you or around a coach timetable, whether the person beside you can answer the question you actually asked.
That is the difference Pyramids Land was built to provide. It is the only thing the company has ever done.
