The 10-Day Egypt Family Holiday

Most family trips to Egypt end with the question: " Why didn't we add the beach? The Red Sea is 90 minutes by air from Aswan. Hurghada has some of the best snorkelling in the world and resort hotels with the infrastructure to genuinely accommodate families. The 10-day package includes it — not as an afterthought, but as the designed ending to a trip that has spent eight days in ancient history.

The structure works because of what the Red Sea days do for the family dynamic. By Day 8, children and adults alike have absorbed a significant amount. The final two days at the resort reset everything: no schedule, no guide, no sites: snorkelling, pool, beach. Children who've spent a week being quiet in temples can run. Parents who've been managing the experience can finally stop managing.

The first eight days are the same private, Egyptologist-led structure as the 8-day tour, extended with Saqqara in Cairo and a fuller day in Aswan. The Nile cruise connects Luxor to Aswan. Then a short domestic flight to Hurghada.

Who This Is For

  • Families with children of varying ages, including teenagers who want the beach component
  • Parents who want a complete Egyptian experience without planning two separate trips
  • Families where adults want the cultural depth, and children want the holiday to end.
  • First-time Egypt visitors who want to see as much as possible in one circuit

What Makes This Tour Different

  • The Red Sea ending is built in from the start — hotels are selected, transfers are included, no scramble at the end.
  • Saqqara is included on Day 3 — the site most 10-day itineraries skip, despite being older and less crowded than Giza.
  • Your Egyptologist stays with you for all 8 archaeological days, not just city sections
  • Hurghada hotels are chosen for family suitability: kids clubs, snorkel gear available, shallow reef access.

What You'll Experience

Day 1 — Arrive in Cairo · Afternoon: Old Cairo

Private airport transfer. Afternoon in Old Cairo with your Egyptologist — the Hanging Church, Ben Ezra Synagogue, Coptic quarter. A gentle, walkable introduction to two thousand years of history in one neighbourhood. '

Day 2 — Grand Egyptian Museum

Full morning at the GEM. Your Egyptologist calibrates the session to your children's age, interests, and attention span. The Tutankhamun gallery is the centrepiece—two to three hours.

 Day 3 — Giza & Saqqara

Giza Plateau early morning: pyramids, Sphinx, camel ride. Afternoon at Saqqara — the Step Pyramid of Djoser (the world's oldest monumental stone structure), the Tomb of Mereruka with its painted daily-life scenes. Children find Saqqara more human-scale and more accessible than Giza — it's one of the most underrated sites in Egypt.

Day 4 — Fly to Luxor · Karnak ·

Embark on a cruise or a domestic flight to Luxor. Karnak Temple in the afternoon, then embark on the Nile cruise ship. Dinner on board as the boat prepares to sail.

Day 5 — Valley of the Kings · Hatshepsut · Sail South

Valley of the Kings first thing — three tombs chosen by your guide. Hatshepsut's Temple at Deir el-Bahari. Colossi of Memnon. Back to the boat and sailing south through the afternoon. Upper deck time: this is when children understand that the Nile is not a metaphor.

Day 6 — Edfu & Kom Ombo

Edfu by horse-drawn carriage from the dock. The Falcon Temple is the best-preserved in Egypt. Sail to Kom Ombo: the double temple and the crocodile mummies. Children's unanimous highlight on the river section.

Day 7 — Aswan: Philae & Felucca

Philae Temple by motorboat — on its island, dedicated to Isis, relocated stone by stone before the reservoir rose. Afternoon felucca ride on the Nile.

Day 8 — Aswan: Nubian Village · Fly to Hurghada

Morning at the Nubian Village — a short cultural visit that the children often find more memorable than expected. Lunch in Aswan. Afternoon domestic flight to Hurghada. Check in to your Red Sea resort—first evening at the pool.

Days 9–10 — Red Sea: Hurghada

No schedule. No Egyptologist. No sites. Snorkelling on the coral reef, the beach, the resort pool, and water sports, if the children want them. Day 10 ends with a private transfer to Hurghada Airport for your international departure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Red Sea safe for children to snorkel?

Hurghada's reef sites are calm, well-monitored, and ideal for beginner snorkellers. The water visibility is excellent. Children aged 6 and above can snorkel confidently with basic instruction. Your resort will have gear available for rental.

How long is the flight from Aswan to Hurghada?

Approximately one hour. The domestic flight is direct and included in the package.

Can we extend the Hurghada section?

Yes. If you want three nights at the Red Sea instead of two, we can adjust the package. Most families find two full days at the beach sufficient — the trip has been archaeology-rich, and the rest is genuinely restorative.

What if my teenagers aren't interested in history?

The Egyptologist guides are experienced with this. They tend to lead with what makes each site surprising or counterintuitive rather than what's famous about it. Teenagers who expect something boring are often the ones most engaged by the end of Day 2. The Nile cruise also helps — the social aspect of the boat suits teenagers in a way that hotel stays don't always.

Two days in Luxor allow you to see the famous sites without rushing, and to reach the places that don't appear in most itineraries. Day one covers the Valley of the Kings and Karnak — the monuments almost everyone knows. Day two goes further: Abydos, where Egyptian religion began, and Deir el-Medina, the village of the workers who built the Valley of the Kings. Most visitors to Luxor spend one day and leave having seen the surface. Two days show you why this city was the religious capital of an empire for 500 years.
